  1. Yeah, in Carter’s case the medicinal marijuana goes hand in hand with therapeutic meth and vitamin cocaine.
I have no strong objection to decriminalizing marijuana — although sober people who want that should ask themselves how thrilled they are with whiskey and tobacco companies. But we should try not to bend the truth for a good cause. The fact is that marijuana is not medicinal. That is an impossible status for a smoked, unformulated, recreational product. Marinol is medicinal, and that’s fine, although it’s a cumbersome drug for its intended purposes.
We’ve been here before with alcohol. During Prohibition doctors wrote “prescriptions” for booze all the time. And it is true that alcohol has a medicinal uses; for instance Nyquil contains alcohol. But just because Nyquil has alcohol, that does not make King Cobra medicinal.
I understand the compassion for pot smokers, but it’s disappointing that Obama is catering to this flim-flam.

  2. I don’t think anyone believes that Wayne’s penchant for the chronic is medical in nature, least of all me. It’s recreational, and I don’t have a problem with that.
Regarding the actual policy move here, the fact of the matter is that – whether you approve or not – a number of states have chosen democratically to allow medicinal usage, and that it’s highly inappropriate and undemocratic for the federal government to prevent those states from implementing their own set of laws.

Yeah, except when it isn’t. Or are you saying that John Calhoun was right all along?
