Ironic Covers

I’m a sucker for a good stylistic rethinking of a cheesy pop (or preferably rap) song. Thus, I really appreciated this cover of “Hot in Herre” by Nelly, courtesy of Ezra Klein:

But the comments yielded yet better manifestations of the genre. Like Nina Gordon (of Veruca Salt) covering “Straight Outta Compton” by N.W.A. (warning: language):

Or, my personal favorite, Ben Gibbard (of Death Cab for Cutie) doing “Complicated” by Avril Lavigne:

Also linked to was Ben Folds’ immortal cover of “Bitches Ain’t Shit” by Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg, but that song, even in piano-rock format, is so outrageously misogynistic and offensive that I won’t post it.
