South Carolina

With 39% reporting, it seems like I was wrong:

John McCain: 35%
Mike Huckabee: 30%
Fred Thompson: 15%
Mitt Romney: 14%
Ron Paul: 4%
Rudy Giuliani: 2%
Duncan Hunter: 0%

Of course, 39% isn’t a majority, and the exit polls show it closer, but so far Huckmania doesn’t seem to have taken hold. Meanwhile, Rudy isn’t a loser; he just hasn’t found the right state yet.

P.S. Okay, with 46% in, things are looking better:

John McCain: 33%
Mike Huckabee: 30%
Fred Thompson: 16%
Mitt Romney: 15%
Ron Paul: 4%
Rudy Giuliani: 2%
Duncan Hunter: 0%

3 points, Hucky. Make it happen.

P.P.S. With 78%, the numbers are holding steady. This is going to be a nail-biter.

P.P.P.S. Same numbers, but with 91% in CNN’s calling it for McCain. Josh Marshall seems to think Thompson is dropping out, but I haven’t seen anything else to that effect. Moreover, if he were to drop out I’d expect him to endorse McCain, but he seems to have guaranteed McCain a win by splitting the evangelical vote, so it would seem that he does McCain more good by staying in.
