Top 10s

Well, it’s a slow news Sunday, and since the AV Club and Jody Rosen have already released their lists it seems like as good a time as any to put up mine.
Top 10 Albums of 2007:
1. Radiohead, In Rainbows.
2. Arcade Fire, Neon Bible.
3. Blonde Redhead, 23.
4. Feist, The Reminder.
5. Burial, Untrue.
6. M.I.A., Kala.
7. Battles, Mirrored.
8. The Broken West, I Can’t Go On, I’ll Go On.
9. Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Is Is.
10. Spoon, Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga.
Top 10 Songs of 2007 (with proof in YouTube form):
1. “Rockers to Swallow”, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Is Is.

2. “BirdFlu”, M.I.A., Kala.

3. “Atlas”, Battles, Mirrored.

4. “No Cars Go”, Arcade Fire, Neon Bible.

5. “The Con”, Tegan and Sara, The Con.

6. “Suffer for Fashion”, Of Montreal, Hissing Fauna, Are You The Destroyer?

7. “Grip Like a Vice”, The Go! Team, Proof of Youth.

8. “Jigsaw Falling Into Place”, Radiohead, In Rainbows.

9. “I Feel It All”, Feist, The Reminder.

10. “Down in the Valley”, The Broken West, I Can’t Go On, I’ll Go On.

The only caveat I’d put is that Is Is is technically an EP (and less than 20 minutes to boot). But it’s pretty great, so it stays.
P.S. Pitchfork’s song list is out, and it’s surprisingly similar to this one. Taking only the top 10 into account, there’s one song in common (“Atlas”, which they put at #2), one song by an artist included here (“Paper Planes” by M.I.A., a close second to “Bird Flu”), and one song I almost included and have praised on this blog (“Bros” by Panda Bear). Their top choice, LCD Soundsystem’s “All My Friends”, is pretty great too. Nicely done, Pitchfork.

  1. Neon Bible is my #1. I was pretty late to discover it (thanks to a link at Metafilter) and I got hooked immediately. “No Cars Go” is by far my favorite song, followed by “Intervention”.
