Adam, Eve, and Mike

So, in response to questioning from Bill O’Reilly, Mike Huckabee said he believes in a literal interpretation of the story of Adam and Eve. Hugh Hewitt responded with outrage at O’Reilly for daring to ask Huckabee this. Steve Benen is amused:

If Hewitt and other conservatives want to take theological questions off the table entirely, I’m delighted. It’s a shame they’re a little late in arriving at this conclusion, though, since they’re the ones who broke down the door in the first place.

I actually think theological questions like this ought to be on the table, for the same reason questions about UFOs should be. If you’re sufficiently detached from reality and scientific truth to believe in flying saucers or young earth creationism, you don’t belong anywhere near the White House.
