This is just bizarre. Apparently, Hillary wanted to serve as Kerry’s VP. Kerry rejected her because of her intense unpopularity in certain quarters, which seems like the obvious choice; perhaps if she had been elected in Arkansas she’d have been more attractive, but a MA-NY joint ticket seems near suicidal. But I have no idea why she would have wanted the post. It usually has no authority, with Gore and Cheney being two of the rare exceptions. It isn’t a particularly good springboard for the presidency; Bush I was the first sitting vice president elected president since Martin Van Buren in 1836. And Hillary didn’t even like Kerry; she and Bill supported Clark in 2004. So I’m at a loss to think of what would have attracted her to it.
